The Ofankor Barrier accident has left Ghana mourning after a devastating multiple-vehicle crash claimed 12 lives and injured 22 others.

The fatal incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 13, 2026, along the Ofankor–Pokuase stretch of the Accra–Nsawam Highway, causing heavy traffic and drawing emergency responders to the scene.

The latest casualty figures were confirmed by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), which said 22 injured persons were receiving medical attention.

What happened in the Ofankor crash?

Preliminary information indicates that the Ofankor crash involved seven vehicles, including two tipper trucks, two Sprinter buses, two saloon cars and a tricycle popularly known as an “aboboyaa.”

According to the NRSA, the tricycle had reportedly broken down on the highway. A tipper truck carrying sand stopped behind it, while two Sprinter buses also stopped behind the truck.

Another tipper truck later approached the stationary vehicles and reportedly crashed into them, triggering a chain collision.

Authorities have stressed that this account remains preliminary, with investigations expected to establish the exact cause of the accident.

What we know about the Ofankor accident victims

The Ofankor accident victims include the 12 people who tragically lost their lives and 22 others who sustained injuries.

The NRSA said 19 of the injured victims were taken to Asofa Hospital, while three others were admitted at Achimota Hospital.

The severity of the crash reportedly left some victims trapped inside the wreckage, requiring emergency personnel to work to free those affected.

    Names of Ofankor accident victims

Many Ghanaians searching online for the names of Ofankor accident victims are yet to get an official list.

As of the latest confirmed update, authorities have not publicly released the names of the 12 deceased victims.

This means names circulating on social media should be treated cautiously until they are confirmed by the Ghana Police Service, NRSA, hospitals or the victims’ families.

    Who are the 12 victims?

The identities of the 12 victims have not yet been officially published.

Authorities are expected to complete the identification and notification process before releasing the names of those who died.

For families looking for relatives who may have travelled through the Ofankor area at the time of the crash, the development remains particularly distressing.

    Ofankor Barrier accident today

The Ofankor Barrier accident today remains under investigation, with authorities working to establish the circumstances that led to the deadly collision.

The tragedy has also renewed concerns about road safety, speeding and the dangers posed by broken-down vehicles on major highways.

The NRSA has urged motorists to observe speed limits, remain alert and exercise caution, particularly when approaching stationary vehicles or road obstructions.

As investigations continue, Zionfelix.net will update this story when authorities officially release further information about the victims, injured persons and cause of the crash.

Editor’s note: This story will be updated as verified information becomes available. Readers are advised not to share unconfirmed names or claims about the victims.
