Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau has said the best thing President Biden can do to help Kamala Harris win the election is to focus on his final months in office.
Jon Favreau was asked on CNN‘s ‘The Lead with Jake Tapper’ if the gaffe-prone president was too much of a risk to go out on the campaign trail.
Favreau, who worked as the White House director of speechwriting for four years, told the program: ‘If I was Joe Biden, his legacy is obviously at stake in this election.
‘I would look at the numbers, I would look at the race and say I’m going to focus on being president.
‘That’s probably the best thing he can do not just for the Harris campaign, but himself and his legacy too.’

Earlier this week Biden had called MAGA supporters ‘garbage’ during a fundraising call in the middle of Harris’ closing speech outside the White House on Tuesday.
He had been addressing remarks made by comedian Tony Hinchliffe who called Puerto Rico a ‘floating island of garbage’ at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.
Biden said: ‘The only garbage I see floating out there is his [Trump’s] supporters. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American.’
According to an Associated Press report The White House had altered the official transcript of that call.
The transcript released by the White House press office altered the word supporters. It said ‘supporter’s’ rather than a plural ‘supporters.’ This change, according to aides, corrects Biden’s statement to imply he was criticizing Hinchcliffe alone, not the millions of Americans voting for Trump.
As the election looms, Harris and her top Democratic allies went all out in a last minute frenzy of campaigning across the country.
The vice president jetted to several swing states in a last-minute bid to nail down crucial voters that could help her in one of the closest elections in history.

Biden however was kept away, with the 81-year-old spending Sunday tucked away at the exclusive Fieldstone Golf Club near his home in Wilmington, Delaware.
He didn’t play, but had lunch with his longtime friend and confidant, former Senator Ted Kauffman.
On Saturday, while campaigning in Pennsylvania, he raised eyebrows by blasting Trump and his MAGA friends as guys you would like to ‘smack in the a**’.
Biden left his schedule light so he could hit the trail for Harris, but her campaign hasn’t reached out. Instead, he has gone out on his own.
Harris responded to the Biden ‘garbage’ comments less than 24 hours later and condemned negative comments about any voters.
‘First of all, he clarified his comments, but let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,’ she told reporters.
