The Ranking Member for Defence and Interior, Rev Ntim Fordjour, has publicly commended the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Air Force for their effective response in a recent sea rescue operation.

In a statement shared on his official social media platform, Rev Ntim Fordjour praised the joint efforts of both services, highlighting their successful search-and-rescue mission that resulted in the safe evacuation of 71 fisherfolk off the coast of Senya Bereku.

The Ranking Member described the operation as a strong demonstration of professionalism and commitment by Ghana’s Armed Forces, noting that the coordinated efforts of the Navy and Air Force helped avert what could have been a major tragedy.

Rev Ntim Fordjour also used the opportunity to emphasise the critical importance of robust maritime security measures, reiterating calls for enhanced resources and improved operational capabilities to protect Ghanaian waters and coastal communities from emerging threats.

“These brave men and women exemplify the best of our defence and security services. Their swift action brought relief and hope to families who feared the worst,” he said in his message.

He concluded by urging continued support for the security agencies, stressing that the safety of Ghanaians on land and at sea remains a top priority for Parliament and the nation.

The Member of Parliament further called on the President, as a matter of urgency, to immediately nominate a substantive Minister for Defence.

He argued that the absence of a substantive minister exposes the country to security vulnerabilities, particularly at a time when threats in the sub-region are evolving.

He warned that terrorist and jihadist groups could exploit perceived weaknesses in the country’s security leadership structure if urgent steps are not taken to strengthen institutional oversight and coordination.
