Calls for the inclusion of Andre Ayew in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup continue to grow as the Black Stars final list is still yet to be announced.

With the tournament fast approaching, debate among Ghanaian football fans has intensified, with some supporters strongly backing the experienced forward’s inclusion while others believe younger players should be given the opportunity instead.

The latest personality to weigh in on the discussion is Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who believes the former Ghana captain still has an important role to play for the national team.

“I will be extremely surprised if Dede Ayew does not secure selection at least into the provisional squad list for the World Cup,” Ampofo Ankrah said.

The NSA boss also highlighted Ayew’s experience and leadership qualities, insisting they could prove crucial for Ghana at the global tournament.

“Beyond his recent solid strides to regain fitness, Dede’s immense experience would be a huge asset for Ghana at the biggest football gathering of all time,” he added.

Ayew recently left Dutch side NAC Breda after the club’s relegation from the Eredivisie. Despite being without a club at the moment, the 35-year-old remains one of Ghana’s most experienced players, having featured in multiple AFCON and World Cup tournaments.

The Black Stars are currently preparing for their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 18 before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
