The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the arrest and detention of social media activist Daniel Adomako, widely known as Sir Obama Pokuase, along with two TikTokers, Fante Comedy and AY.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the group questioned why the Ghana Police Service would allocate resources to detain these young individuals.
“The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has noted with disdain the arrest and detention of two TikTokers yesterday over a viral video, as well as the arrest of Sir Obama Pokuase, a social media activist, this morning.
We are shocked that a serious establishment like the Ghana Police Service would waste resources to arrest and detain young citizens who, out of exuberance, made comments deemed unsuitable for the moment,” the statement said.
The group further reminded the police that the individuals had no intention of causing harm.
Two arrested for threatening President Mahama and First Lady Lordina
“We need not remind the Ghana Police that freedom of speech is guaranteed in the country for all citizens, and that the partisan approach being adopted by the current security system is very worrisome. The current IGP, who served as Deputy IGP under the erstwhile NPP administration, should know there are numerous, if not worse, reckless comments and videos from NDC activists that his outfit tolerated. Why the intolerance today?
Why is the malicious treatment of all persons who identify with the NPP the new norm for the security setup? Is it a deliberate attempt to intimidate us?” it added.
The Youth Wing described the arrests as “shamelessly biased” and “absolutely partisan,” calling for the unconditional and immediate release of all three individuals.
“The Ghana Police Service should not be a wimp for the executive. Your motto is ‘Service with Integrity,’ so where is the integrity you speak of?” the statement added.
According to the police, Sir Obama was arrested in an intelligence-led operation targeting the illegal possession and public display of sophisticated weapons.
The two other suspects were arrested in connection with a viral TikTok video in which an individual allegedly threatened to kill President John Mahama before the end of 2025 and behead First Lady Lordina Mahama.
