Political activist Kwadwo Bonnah has criticised the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its approach to reorganising the party following the 2024 elections.
According to him, the party’s recent directive prohibiting members from engaging in media discussions that could create disaffection is counterproductive.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on March 22, 2025, Bonnah specifically called out the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, accusing him of hypocrisy.
He pointed out that Kodua himself had gone on media tours to justify the party’s loss in the 2024 elections, even attributing the defeat to spiritual factors.
“Let’s be clear, Kodua himself went from one media house to another after the elections, trying to explain the loss. He even claimed it was spiritual, while Hon. Eugene Antwi rightly argued that elections are won through strategy and data. This inconsistency in leadership is glaring.
“Is Kodua selectively enforcing discipline, or is he acting on behalf of hidden forces within the party? Leadership should be about fairness, unity, and strength, not intimidation and selective justice,” he said
Bonnah claimed the NPP leadership is failing to understand the basic principles of rebuilding a political party after a defeat.
He urged the party to unite its members by encouraging open dialogue rather than resorting to intimidation and threats against those expressing disappointment.
“If anyone should be called to account, it should be Kodua himself,” Bonnah added.
“He has overseen a party that is failing to address internal grievances wisely. This approach will only deepen the divisions within the NPP.”
Bonnah emphasised that the party should not silence members who are expressing frustration over the election loss.
“Those speaking out are not enemies of the party. They are dedicated members who want the NPP to improve. These conversations are not destructive; they are part of the healing process. People should be encouraged to share their concerns, not silenced through threats,” he said.
