NDC Flagbearer John Mahama has accused the NPP of collapsing the economy
The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has once again slammed the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for mismanaging Ghana’s economy since assuming power in January 2017.
According to him, the NPP inherited a healthy and thriving economy from the NDC but has run it into a total mess.
Addressing supporters as part of his campaign tour in the Greater Accra region, John Mahama stated that the NDC, whenever in government, took responsibility and fixed the economy whenever it encountered challenges, unlike the NPP, which is quick to blame others.
“The NPP government, which took over in January 2017, has clearly failed. They have completely failed in all aspects of our progress as a society. But the worst failure is in the management of our economy. Today, our economy is in a complete and total mess. But the NDC has managed this country before, and when we manage this country, we don’t shift blame to others. We take responsibility and we fix the challenges.
“And so, one of the things I have said is that when we come into office, the first thing we are going to do in the 120-day programme is to hold a national dialogue on the economy. We will open the books for all of you to see the damage that the NPP has done to this economy,” the former President stated.
He added that the NPP, which he believes will exit power after the December 7, 2024 elections, should author a book on how to mismanage an economy in eight years when they go into opposition.
“They took a healthy and thriving economy from the NDC administration, and in eight years, they have destroyed it. The NPP qualifies to write a book on how to destroy an economy in eight years. It should be a standard textbook for all SHS and universities. That is the book Bawumia and co. should be writing. That is the book Ken Ofori-Atta and Nana Akufo-Addo should be writing. It would be a bestseller. When they go into opposition, they should go and write that book.”
