The MP for Trobu, Gloria Owusu The MP for Trobu, Gloria Owusu

The Member of Parliament for Trobu Gloria Owusu, had said that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remains the overwhelming choice of stakeholder of the NPP for the party’s 2028 Presidential Candidate.

Dr Bawumia, who is seeking the mandate of the NPP to become its 2028 Presidential Candidate, is embarking on a campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region, and on Friday, he engaged with a number of party stakeholders.

Speaking at one of the engagements, Gloria Owusu reiterated her unflinching support, and that of many other stakeholders of the party, and revealed how the former Vice President is widely adored among the party’s grassroots.

“For us in Amasaman, Trobu, Anyaa Sowutuom and Dome Kwabenya, all that we are saying is we assure you of our unflinching support and we will work very hard to get you elected as our Flagbearer,” she said.

The MP shared how market women at the Dome market expressed their love for Bawumia, and warned her against making the wrong choice.

“I was at the Dome Market the other time to buy something and when the market women recognised me a number of them came around and mobbed me. What I am saying, God is my witness. They cautioned me that if we, the NPP make any mistake and don’t bring Dr Bawumia , we will see what will happen in 2028. They said they don’t want anyone who will come and be insultting people.”

The MP also shot down attempts by opponents to solely blame Bawumia for the party’s 2024 defeat, insisting that the real cause of the party’s defeat was not the candidate, but the thorny issue of party members being neglected.

“I believe strongly that our 2024 election was not caused by the candidate. Our attitude to our own supporters caused our defeat.”

Many other speakers also commended Dr Bawumia and urged party members to return him as the party’s candidate.
