Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, has emphasized that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot secure victory in a national election without undergoing significant restructuring.

Boamah stressed that the party must urgently rebrand and reorganize to regain its appeal among Ghanaians.

The lawmaker noted that, at over 40 years old, he is legally eligible to run for president but clarified that his focus is not on the presidency at this time. He argued that even if he were elected as the party’s flagbearer, the NPP would still lose the general election unless it undergoes fundamental reforms.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Boamah stated, “While I meet the constitutional age requirement to contest the presidency, my immediate priority is not personal ambition but party restructuring. Without fixing the party’s internal issues, no candidate—myself included—can win a national election.”

He highlighted the need to nurture young party members, particularly those aged 14 to 18 aspiring to become polling station agents, by giving them opportunities to engage in grassroots campaigning. “We must invest in the next generation and rebuild enthusiasm at the base,” he said.

Boamah also called for the NPP to restore public trust by holding the government accountable and improving its governance record. “Our party must critically assess the government’s performance, demand transparency, and strategize effectively to regain voter confidence,” he added.

In a previous interview, Boamah reiterated that the NPP should prioritize internal reforms before selecting a flagbearer. “I have consistently opposed choosing a leader before fixing the party’s structural problems. We need a strong, disciplined party to elect a president—not just a flagbearer. What foundation do we have if the party itself is weak?” he questioned.
