Former Minister of Information and Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has issued a powerful call for introspection within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that the party has drifted from its foundational values of integrity, sacrifice, and service to the nation.

Addressing delegates at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium, Oppong Nkrumah expressed concern over what he described as the increasing dominance of money and personal interest within the party’s leadership.

“This is a party that was built on selflessness, sacrifice, and service. The truth is that over the years, we’ve lost a lot of it,” he said to a mix of applause and somber reflection from attendees. “Somebody may not like to hear it, but as a truth, over the years, people have been more motivated by money and personal interest and other things.”

His remarks come at a defining moment for the NPP, as the party undertakes a constitutional review process and holds critical conversations on the future of its leadership, internal democracy, and grassroots engagement.

Oppong Nkrumah emphasized that the party’s survival and credibility ahead of the 2028 elections depend on a genuine return to the values that once distinguished it from others. “We want everybody to go back to our values of sacrifice, of selflessness, and of service,” he urged.

The 2025 conference, themed “Rebuilding Together with our Values,” has sparked meaningful discussions among delegates and party leaders, many of whom admit the need for deep reforms and a renewal of purpose.

As the NPP looks to regain the trust of the Ghanaian electorate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s message has emerged as a defining moment—one that challenges the party to choose between the comfort of complacency and the courage of transformation.
