The Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako, has emphasised that the party has demonstrated maturity throughout the election process.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, December 28, 2024, he explained that the NPP has chosen to avoid unnecessary confrontations with its opponents, prioritising peace and stability for the benefit of Ghana.
“This election, the New Patriotic Party has shown a lot of maturity. We’ve really taken on board all those unnecessary confrontations from our opponents. But it’s in the good of Ghana. The message from the candidate, Dr. Bawumia, was that before, during, and after the election there must be peace in Ghana, and it is what the New Patriotic Party is exhibiting,” he explained.
Touching on the recollation of results in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, he expressed concern over the absence of Form 1C, which serves as the collation sheet.
“Strangely, we have not been given the Form 1C, which is the collation sheet. Our colleagues had them, and thankfully, today, we’ve received a copy. We are going to examine each one of them from one polling station to another. Remember, there are 370 polling stations, so we’ll go through each sheet as they appear on the collated results and come back to address any discrepancies.
“This form has not yet been provided, adding to the uncertainties surrounding the electoral process,” he added.
The Director of Elections for the NPP was, however, confident the party’s candidate would emerge as the winner of the parliamentary elections after the rerun of the election at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station in the constituency.
“We know that the good people of Dome Kwabenya will give our candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr., the vote he needs to go to Parliament and represent them effectively in the 9th Parliament,” he added.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a rerun of the election at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station in the constituency.
The decision comes after the collation process for 367 polling stations concluded, with discrepancies in three outstanding results.
