The Ashanti Regional chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has made a startling accusation against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming they are behind a smear campaign targeting top NPP officials of Asante descent, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

According to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the NDC has hired individuals to disparage prominent NPP members.

This allegation comes after Dela Edem, an NDC member, and Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change, allegedly insulted former President Kufuor for endorsing NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2024 elections.

Chairman Wontumi emphasized that the NPP will not tolerate insults against its members while maintaining a commitment to civil discourse.

He urged political actors to refrain from insults to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the lead-up to the 2024 polls.

This development highlights the escalating tensions between the NPP and NDC ahead of the elections.
