In a significant victory for law enforcement, the Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of key members of a violent, inter-regional armed robbery syndicate responsible for a terrifying spate of attacks on homes, highways, and businesses across the country.

The crackdown, led by intelligence units, has uncovered a web of crime stretching from Accra to Kumasi and exposed the gang’s alleged involvement in crimes dating back years, including a brutal murder.

    The Key Suspects

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

    Kofi Ishmael, 30

Kwame Bediako (aka Star Boy, Nkokopo, Kwame Mike, Father), alleged to be the ringleader.

    Kwame Bonsu (aka Killer Ntua)

Police are actively pursuing several other named accomplices who remain at large.

The Peduase Robbery & The Investigation Unfolds

The investigation gained crucial momentum from a violent home invasion in Peduase, Aburi, on November 29, 2025. Three armed men attacked the residence of J.A. Biney, escaping with high-value mobile phones (including an iPhone 16 Plus), jewellery, and cash.

The breakthrough came on January 6, 2026, when personnel from the Eastern and Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorates (PID) tracked and arrested Kofi Ishmael at his hideout in Avenor, Accra. During interrogation, Ishmael confessed to the Peduase robbery and named Kwame Bediako as the gang’s leader, providing a list of accomplices.

Acting on this information, police arrested Bediako at Ablekumah Agape. A search of his residence yielded a critical piece of evidence: a pump-action gun and four BB cartridges buried in a sack within his fence wall. Bediako also confessed and implicated additional individuals, including a taxi driver known as Gideon.

A Trail of Violence on Highways and Beyond

Further investigations revealed the gang’s terrifying specialty: targeting trailer drivers from Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Mali, and Ghana along major transit routes. Their alleged operational zones included:

    Tema Motorway

    Achimota Forest Road

    Pokuase, Amasaman

    Suhum, Nkawkaw

    The Juaso–Kumasi stretch

Dramatic Arrests and a Grisly History

Acting on intelligence that the gang was planning another highway robbery, police moved swiftly to Nkawkaw and surrounding towns in the Eastern Region. There, they intercepted and arrested five more suspects—including Kwame Bonsu (“Killer Ntua”)—as they were allegedly preparing to strike. Bonsu was shot in the knee after reportedly attacking officers during an escape attempt. He is currently under guard at the Police Hospital.

The probe has now shockingly linked the gang to a series of past unsolved crimes:

An attack on market women at Ngleshie Amanfro (Oct. 16, 2025) where GH¢30,000 was stolen.

Multiple robberies in Kibi and Suhum.

A 2023 murder and robbery of driver Yaw Boakye, where GH¢1.2 million was stolen.

An attack on a National RDF officer at the Accra-Tema Toll Booth (Sept. 24, 2025), where an AK-47 rifle was stolen.

Police revealed that the ringleader, Kwame Bediako, had previously jumped bail in connection with some of these earlier cases.

    Recovered Exhibits and Ongoing Efforts

A cache of weapons and items has been recovered, including:

A black Zastava pistol (Serial: 833577) with 19 rounds of 9mm ammo.

    Five empty cartridges.

Two rubber pistols, a pump-action gun, machetes, and a knife.

Stolen mobile phones, cowries, and a purse containing assorted ID cards.

The police have assured the public that operations are ongoing to apprehend all remaining suspects. They are also appealing to victims of related robberies to come forward and assist with identification and investigations to ensure the gang faces the full extent of the law.
