Ghanaian musician Abdul Razak Issahaku, popularly known as Iwan Suhyini, has expressed support for fellow artist Kofi Kinaata’s win in the Reggae Song of the Year category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards. Despite some dissatisfaction from fans over Kinaata’s win, Iwan clarified that he has no objections to artists from other genres winning in reggae categories if their work meets the criteria.

In an interview on Property FM in Cape Coast, Iwan explained that Kofi Kinaata’s track, Effiakuma Love, was deserving of the award. He stated, “In terms of other artists coming from other genres to win an award in the reggae and dancehall category, I don’t see it as a problem. If the song qualifies to be in that category, I don’t have a problem.”

He added that not all Rastafarian or reggae fans are upset by Kinaata’s win. “Some of us listen to music and follow the music, so if the song qualifies to be awarded, I think it’s just proper for Effiakuma Love to win that award,” Iwan said, underscoring his openness to diversity in the reggae genre and his appreciation for quality music, regardless of genre boundaries.
