On April 10, Nordic Ring Promotions will host a historic boxing event at Gamla Bíó in Reykjavík, Iceland. The event marks a symbolic moment in Icelandic boxing history, reconnecting the country with a sport that has a long and complex legal and cultural story.

Boxing in Iceland dates back to the early 20th century. One of the most famous venues for boxing in the country was Gamla Bíó, where boxing events were held in the mid-1900s and attracted large crowds. Fighters such as Guðmundur Arason competed there, and the venue became closely associated with the early development of the sport in Iceland.

However, in 1956 Iceland introduced legislation that effectively stopped professional boxing competitions in the country. The law was primarily aimed at professional prizefighting, while amateur boxing continued to develop under organized sports federations.

Today, boxing is recognized as a legitimate sport in Iceland and is practiced within clubs across the country. Amateur boxing operates under the Icelandic sports movement and the national boxing federation. The legal status of professional boxing has been debated for decades, and discussions about modernization of the legislation continue.

The April 10 event is intended as both a sporting and historical moment – bringing boxing back to one of the most iconic venues in Icelandic boxing history.

The event will feature several Icelandic fighters alongside international opponents and is promoted by Nordic Ring Promotions.

    Event details:
    Venue: Gamla Bíó, Reykjavík, Iceland
    Date: April 10, 2026
    Promoter: Nordic Ring Promotions

    Featured fighters include:
    Kolbeinn Kristinsson
    Valgerður Guðsteinsdóttir
    Emin Kadri Eminsson
    Brage Lange
    Hafþór Magnússon
    Ísak Guðnason
    Zalmai Jasur
