Thierry Henry has waded into the Alexander Isak transfer saga, accusing fans and pundits of double standards as the Newcastle striker pushes for a move to Liverpool.

Isak’s name has dominated headlines this summer after making clear his intention to leave St. James’ Park. The Swedish forward, who scored 21 league goals last season, believes his career can only progress at a club regularly fighting for trophies.

That has put Liverpool at the front of the queue, with the Reds reportedly tabling a bid in excess of £110 million.

Newcastle, however, are refusing to buckle. Manager Eddie Howe insists the club cannot sanction a sale unless replacements arrive, calling the affair a “lose-lose situation” for both player and club.

What has made the saga more explosive is Isak’s own statement, in which he accused Newcastle of breaking promises.

Fans who only weeks ago celebrated his goals now boo his name, with some even venting their frustration at public events.

As such, Henry has jumped to the defence of the Swedish striker, arguing that the fans and media are unfair. The French legend declared that the outrage is misplaced.

“When you have a player in this type of situation at Newcastle, where Isak wants to leave, it’s because he’s good that people are upset. When a player is playing bad and the club wants him out, I don’t see anyone crying for the player,” he said.

For now, the standoff continues. Isak remains determined to join Liverpool, Newcastle remain unwilling to lose their talisman, and supporters remain torn between betrayal and heartbreak.
