Popular media personality Ola Michael has declared he will stage a “one-man demonstration” if event organisers Charterhouse attempt to release the winner of the 2019 Vodafone (now Telecel) Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year award.

It may be recalled that after a violent altercation between the camps of Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale on the night of the awards in 2019, the winner was never announced and has been left blank in the history books.

However, in a series of interviews since that incident, Stonebwoy has been calling on CharterHouse to officially announce him as the winner, claiming that an inside source had revealed to him that he is the winner of the award.

Speaking on United Showbiz on July 19, 2025, Michael described the infamous 2019 night, which saw dancehall artistes Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy clash, including the latter brandishing a firearm on stage, as a traumatic episode for Ghana’s music industry.

“That night was a very traumatic night for the whole country. We had never seen anything like that before,” he reminded viewers.

Michael also questioned why Stonebwoy claims to be the winner of the award, stating that such claims may be disrespectful to the other nominees in the category.

“Why does he think it is he who won it? Who told him he was the winner? No one saw the winner because the envelope was never opened. What if it was someone else in the category?” he questioned.

Ola Michael added that there was no need for the official winner to be announced out of respect for those who were traumatised that night.

He further warned that should CharterHouse proceed to release the official winner, he would personally go on a protest.

“There is no need for Charterhouse to release the name. If they release the name, I will demonstrate,” he said.
