Picking an all-time ultimate team is never easy. Players sometimes face severe backlash whenever they make their choices, and the latest player to spark outrage from football fans is Chelsea and England legend John Terry.

Terry spent an incredible 19 seasons at Stamford Bridge, playing alongside some of the best players and winning multiple trophies, including the Champions League in 2012.

However, when asked to reveal his ultimate Chelsea eleven by Mirror Football, one omission raised eyebrows. Despite years of success together, Michael Essien did not make the cut.

Terry opted for Claude Makélélé, Frank Lampard, and Cesc Fàbregas in midfield, leaving out Essien, whom many Chelsea fans believe was one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation.

Terry surprisingly excluded himself from the defense, despite leading the charge at the back during Chelsea’s peak years.

The former England captain chose a partnership of Marcel Desailly and Thiago Silva, with César Azpilicueta and Ashley Cole as the right and left backs, respectively.

In attack, he selected Gianfranco Zola, who cost the club just £4.5 million when he arrived from Parma in 1996 and turned out to be a legend.

He was joined by Eden Hazard and Didier Drogba, whose decisive penalty secured Chelsea their first-ever Champions League trophy.

Essien’s exclusion has sparked a debate amongst fans as they make a case for his inclusion.
