Benjamin Asare is the number one of the Black Stars

Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has said he feels the same level of pressure playing for Hearts of Oak as he does representing the Black Stars.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper has been one of Ghana football’s most remarkable comeback stories.

After suffering relegation with Great Olympics, Asare’s career took a dramatic turn when he joined Hearts of Oak, where his consistent performances earned him a surprise call-up to the Black Stars earlier in 2025.

Since making his international debut in March 2025, Asare has quickly established himself as Ghana’s number one goalkeeper, conceding just once in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

But for Asare, the pressure that comes with representing both club and country is the same.

“They are the same. The ball we play at Hearts of Oak is the same we play at the Black Stars. I want God to take me to places, and I want to do something big in football because apart from football, I don’t have any job,” he told Original TV.

With five clean sheets in six competitive appearances for the Black Stars, Asare’s calm command and growing confidence have silenced many critics.
