PSG will face either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the last four of the tournament PSG will face either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the last four of the tournament

Harry Kane’s error paved the way to Bayern Munich’s Club World Cup loss to nine-man Paris Saint-Germain, as Jamal Musiala suffered a horror injury.

After an end-to-end opening, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia could only find the side netting when put through by Achraf Hakimi inside the opening 20 minutes. Then at the other end, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made a great save to keep out Michael Olise’s powerful drive as the Italian continued his strong run of form.

Kvaratskhelia looked the most likely to break the deadlock but Manuel Neuer spread himself well to deny the Georgian just after the half-hour mark. Soon after Dayot Upamecano had a header ruled out for offside, Kane was a whisker away from giving his side the lead five minutes before the break but his header flew inches over the bar.

The half ended on a sad note as Musiala appeared to suffer a horrific injury following a collision with Donnarumma, with the 22-year-old eventually being stretchered off the field.

Following a relatively uneventful start to the second half, substitute Ousmane Dembele missed a gilt-edged opportunity 15 minutes from time when he cut out Neuer’s poor pass but failed to roll the ball into an empty net from 20 yards out.

However, the breakthrough finally came in the 78th minute when Kane lost the ball in his half, and moments later, Doue fired into the corner from the edge of the area. The Champions League winners went down to 10 men for the closing stages as William Pacho was shown a straight red for a reckless tackle on substitute Leon Goretzka.

Kane had the ball in the back of the net but his celebrations were cut short as the England captain was flagged offside, before PSG had their second player red carded when Lucas Hernandez elbowed Raphael Guerreiro just minutes after coming on.

Ballon d’Or favourite Dembele settled the contest with an emphatic finish deep into second-half stoppage time as the Ligue 1 champions secured a dramatic and feisty 2-0 victory, which also included Bayern having a penalty kick rescinded, to advance to the semi-finals of the Club World Cup.

In a contest high on energy but lacking in quality at times, 20-year-old Doue showed his class to bag a classy opener at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The youngster went on a number of delightful dribbles as he proved too hot to handle for Bayern’s defence. His stock just keeps on rising.

Although Kane’s error led to PSG’s first goal, losing Musiala to a serious-looking injury is a much bigger concern ahead of next season. The German international is arguably Bayern’s best player, and if he is out for a long time, the German side may have to buy reinforcements in the transfer market.

Luis Enrique’s PSG side will now face either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the last four of the Club World Cup on Wednesday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. Chelsea and Fluminense are in the other semi-final tie.
