Ace sports presenter Dan Kwaku Yeboah has publicly approved Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, as the ideal candidate for the position of Minister of Sports and Recreation in the John Dramani Mahama government.

Dan Kwaku Yeboah is in awe of the experience and competence of Nii Lante Vanderpuye, whom he describes as Ghana’s best sports minister in the last decade.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo program, Kwaku Yeboah stated that Nii Lante Vanderpuye stands head and shoulders above anyone who has served in the role and deserves to be given the position to advance the progress of Ghana sports.

Kwaku Yeboah reasons that having served as a sports journalist and sports minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has the knowledge and personality to navigate the issues in the sector.

“Even under Nana Addo, Nii Lante should have been the sports minister. Because he was once a sports journalist, he understands the industry and what needs to be done to improve the sector. He’s no pushover. During his time, he ensured effective management of resources. He’s been my best sports minister for the past ten years,” he said.

His endorsement comes amid rife reports that Nii Lante Vanderpuye is the frontrunner for the Minister of Sports and Recreation role under the government.

The reports pit him against Kofi Adams as the two people who are being considered for the role, with Nii Lante slightly ahead due to the overwhelming clamor for him.

In March 2013, Nii Lante Vanderpuye was appointed Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry under the John Mahama government.

He served in this role until 2014, when he was reassigned as Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, a position he held until 2015.

Following a ministerial reshuffle in 2015, Vanderpuye was appointed Minister of Youth and Sports by President John Dramani Mahama, replacing Dr. Mustapha Ahmed.
