The piracy problem in Ghana’s entertainment industry is once again making headlines, with filmmakers from both Ghana and Nigeria expressing frustration over the unauthorised use of their work.

Over the years, several Ghanaian and Nigerian filmmakers, including Mercy Johnson, Xandy Kamel, and Omoni Oboli, and others, have accused certain Ghanaian television stations of airing their movies without permission.

The latest to speak out is Nigerian actor and producer Nosa Rex.

In a video shared on his Facebook page on August 12, 2025, the visibly upset actor accused Ghanaian TV stations of broadcasting his latest movie, ‘Prince of Peace’, just hours after its release, without his consent.

He expressed disappointment, noting that producing a movie requires huge financial investment and effort, yet Ghanaian authorities appear to be doing little to combat piracy.

The Nigerian filmmaker also called out his Ghanaian colleagues for staying silent whenever Nigerian actors and producers raised concerns about piracy.

“The TV stations that air our movies for free. Ghana’s entertainment would continue to be behind. Is there no authority in Ghana that could tell the media stations that what is being done is not right.

“I just released my film Prince of Peace and the next thing; they are airing it. Are they not aware that the movies are shot with money? If they watch the movie on your TV stations, how would they come and stream it from our channel? Why are my Ghanaian actors not condemning this kind of thing?” he asked.
