Nigeria head coach Daniel Ogunmodede expressed his delight after guiding the Super Eagles to a 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black Galaxies, securing their place in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The emphatic win in Uyo on Saturday ended a six-year absence from the tournament for Nigeria and brought an end to their losing streak against their arch-rivals Ghana.

“We are pleased to give Nigerians this gift during the festive season,” Ogunmodede said after the game.

Despite the celebratory mood, Ogunmodede emphasized the importance of staying grounded as they prepare for the main tournament, which will be co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda in February.

“We won’t over-celebrate this achievement. Our goal is to prepare well and compete strongly for the trophy in February,” the coach stated, signalling Nigeria’s ambitions for a strong showing at CHAN 2025.

The Super Eagles displayed impressive attacking football, scoring all three goals in the first half through Ismaila Sodiq, Nduka Junior, and Isaac Saviour.

The victory also showcased Nigeria’s hunger to reclaim their spot among Africa’s elite, a sentiment Ogunmodede reiterated.

“This win was about more than qualifying; it was about restoring pride and belief in our team. We look forward to building on this,” he concluded.

The 2025 CHAN tournament will take place in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, and Ogunmodede is determined to lead the Super Eagles to success.
