Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong has announced that the Super Eagles have called off their strike and will return to training on Wednesday evening ahead of Thursday’s crucial African play-off clash with Gabon.

The defender disclosed the update in a post on his X account, stating: “Issue resolved. Outstanding financials cleared and on the ground. The team is united and focused as before on representing Nigeria with our maximum effort for the games ahead.

Earlier, the squad had gone on strike due to a bonus dispute with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). On Tuesday, 23 players in camp boycotted training to press their demands, putting preparations for the semi-final in jeopardy.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) intervened on Wednesday to settle the matter, ensuring the squad could resume training in time for the tie in Rabat.

The winner of the Super Eagles vs Gabon match will face the victor of the Cameroon vs DR Congo clash in the final of the African play-offs.

The overall winner will advance to the intercontinental playoff, keeping Africa’s hopes alive of sending a 10th representative to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
