All Star Boxing, Inc. officially launched its world title card, “Haciendo Historia,” today at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello.
Headlining the event is Nicaragua’s idol Eveling “La Colocha” Ortega, who challenges Mexico’s Alma Melissa “La Leona” Meraz for the WBA interim women’s light flyweight championship. The event takes place Friday, October 30, at the Centro de Convenciones Olof Palme in Managua, with action beginning at 7:00 p.m. local time.
Special guests at today’s press conference included internationally celebrated Román “Chocolatito” González, Nicaragua’s first four-division world champion, former pound-for-pound No. 1, and a future Hall of Fame candidate, alongside Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga, the former unified welterweight champion and two-division world champion. Their presence brought together two of Nicaragua’s most recognized boxing figures as Ortega prepares to pursue her own championship legacy.
Ortega (13-5, 3 KOs), the reigning WBO Latin light flyweight champion, enters the bout riding a seven-fight winning streak. Ranked No. 1 by the WBO and No. 4 by the WBA, Ortega now has a championship opportunity under the direction of Felix “Tuto” Zabala, with her country behind her.
Standing in her way is defending champion Meraz (12-4-2, 2 KOs) of Mexicali, Mexico. “La Leona” captured the WBA interim championship against Jacqueline Calvo in September 2025 and successfully defended her crown against Elizabeth López Corzo this past August. Their championship contest is scheduled for 10 rounds at 108 pounds.
In the co-main event, undefeated, world-ranked bantamweight contender Bryan Blandón (13-0-1, 3 KOs), ranked No. 12 by the WBO, of Managua, faces former world title challenger Ronal Batista (16-5, 10 KOs) of Panama in a 10-round showdown, adding another high-stakes matchup to the evening.
“Haciendo Historia” continues All Star Boxing’s longstanding commitment to Nicaragua and the advancement of women’s boxing. On December 19, 2009, the company helped present the country’s first women’s world title fight, when Costa Rica’s Hanna Gabriels defeated Argentina’s Gabriela Zapata to capture the WBO welterweight championship in Managua.
The company later promoted Ortega’s breakthrough WBO Latin championship victory in October 2023 and staged Nicaragua’s first card featuring three professional women’s bouts in one evening. Through its continuing events and ESPN broadcasts, All Star Boxing has helped bring Nicaraguan talent to international audiences.
Presented by All Star Boxing, Inc., Alcaldía de Managua, and Victoria Clásica, in association with Honda Enimosa, the event’s broadcast partners include ESPN KnockOut, Disney+, and Canal 4. Tickets are available at Ticketerani.com.
