Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has underscored the vital role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in advancing community development and educational empowerment in Ghana.

Speaking through his deputy at the 2024–2025 Academic Year Scholarship Awards Ceremony organized by Relief and Aid International, the Minister praised NGOs for their contributions to equitable access to education, particularly for underserved students.

The event, themed “Beyond the Aid, Unveiling the Future,” celebrated the awarding of scholarships to over 45 needy but brilliant students pursuing studies in fields such as medicine, nursing, engineering, and education.

The Minister highlighted that initiatives like these align with the government’s agenda to provide inclusive and relevant education through policies such as Free SHS, curriculum reforms, and teacher development.

“Relief and Aid International is not only removing financial barriers but also igniting hope, potential, and service-oriented leadership,” he stated.

Madam Peggy Adamafio, Founder and President of Relief and Aid International, emphasized the importance of investing in youth to shape Ghana’s future. Quoting Kofi Annan, she said, “Health is a human right,” stressing the need for skilled healthcare professionals and preventive healthcare.

Madam Adamafio described the scholarships as “bridges that connect talent to opportunity,” urging recipients to dream boldly, work tirelessly, and give back to society.

She also outlined the organization’s broader mission to address challenges such as financial instability, lack of accommodation, and other barriers to youth success.

The ceremony recognized the resilience and academic excellence of the scholars, who have overcome significant obstacles.

The Minister encouraged them to view the support as both a reward and a responsibility—to serve and uplift others. He also expressed the Ministry’s openness to further collaboration with Relief and Aid International to enhance learning outcomes at the community level.

Madam Adamafio thanked donors, partners, and mentors for their generosity, noting that their contributions would create a lasting legacy. The event reaffirmed the shared commitment to empowering Ghana’s youth through education, with stakeholders urged to continue building partnerships for long-term resilience and opportunity.

Congratulations were extended to the scholarship recipients, along with calls for them to lead with compassion and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development.
