Longtime NFL fans took issue with Fox Sports’ Tom Brady after he accused Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold of ‘acting’ following a late hit.
In the second quarter of Sunday’s rivalry game between the Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers, Darnold took a hit out of bounds from Niners linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
The hit resulted in a scuffle between the two teams that saw Greenlaw using his facemask to headbutt a Seahawks rival who did not have his helmet on – which resulted in an ejection.
All the while, Brady disagreed with the assessment of the foul by officials and bemoaned how much the sport has ‘changed’ since he played it.
‘I don’t think that’s an illegal hit at all,’ Brady said on the broadcast. ‘I know they might call a penalty but Dre Greenlaw’s on a full sprint to make sure that Darnold’s not gaining anywhere near close to the first-down marker, which is exactly what Darnold’s doing.
‘And then it’s a little nudge out of bounds, and Darnold with the acting… football has changed so much, I know that’s a little late as the foot goes down.’

Fans instantly picked up on Brady’s snark and noted how often the quarterback got favorable calls from officials throughout his career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
‘Tom would’ve complained so much if he took this hit,’ one user on X posted.
Another said: ‘Truly insane hearing Brady say it’s a different game now. The NFL so clearly protected Brady just like they do Mahomes now.’
‘Brady acting he was getting spiked like Bradshaw when he was playing,’ remarked another poster.
One user wrote, ‘Pot calling the kettle black,’ while another commented, ‘Like Brady never “acted.”‘
Darnold’s late-hit wasn’t his biggest problem of the day as he threw two interceptions to help the Niners mount a dramatic comeback to win 32-29.
