Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs

Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, has assured Ghanaians to expect an ‘unprecedented’ level of development within the next four years.

He said the period under President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would mark a “golden age of development,” adding that the government welcomed the contributions and support of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.

Ibrahim, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Banda Constituency in the Bono Region, stated that inclusivity is the true embodiment of democracy and a core principle of the NDC, aimed at facilitating accelerated national development.

He emphasized that disunity, backbiting, and petty squabbles would derail the path of progressive national development and called for national unity to drive the wheels of growth.

Ibrahim gave the assurance while addressing a meeting of the Banda District Assembly at Banda Ahenkro, where the Assembly confirmed President Mahama’s nominee, Peter Dongi, as the Banda District Chief Executive (DCE).

The President’s nominee received unanimous approval from the 19-member assembly, polling 100 percent ‘yes’ votes in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission.

Ibrahim stated that the government remains committed to including everyone in the nation’s development process and urged the youth to remain focused, make informed decisions, and support the development agenda.

The MP encouraged the DCE to prioritize development and urged the people to support him in implementing strategies that would elevate the district’s progress.

He added that the government had so far nominated Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for 13 regions, noting that the remaining three regions would soon have their nominees.

Ibrahim concluded that the government is committed to deepening the decentralisation process, adding that the successful nominations and confirmations of the MMDCEs reflect cohesiveness in advancing the nation’s decentralisation system.
