Nigerian singer Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has opened up on her recent relocation to New York, explaining that the move was inspired by her deep connection to the city and its vibrant African community.


In an interview on Hot 93.7 in Hartford, the 23-year-old singer said she had always felt drawn to New York and enjoyed every opportunity to perform there.
She noted that the city’s energy and diversity remind her of Lagos, making it easy for her to adapt and it’s a natural step in her personal, and artistic journey.
Ayra Starr stressed that her move does not in any way signal a detachment from her culture. Instead, she intends to amplify Afrobeats on the global stage while staying rooted in her identity.
According to her, Afrobeats is more than a music genre it is a core part of who she is. She also expressed determination to showcase it internationally as her career continues to expand.
“I moved in to broaden my sound and just to make my people proud around the world. I want to carry my culture wherever I go.” She said
