Jordan Ayew is the captain of the Black Stars Jordan Ayew is the captain of the Black Stars

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has once again shown a side of himself many fans rarely get to see, and this time, it’s got people talking almost as much as he did.

The usually reserved forward, known for his serious demeanour on and off the pitch, was spotted at Ajax Park in Legon this week, where he turned a casual kickabout into a mini masterclass on what makes football truly demanding.

Fresh off the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season with Leicester City, Ayew has returned home for a short break but couldn’t resist lacing up his boots for some light training.

It was there that a video emerged, now making rounds on social media, showing Ayew animatedly debating with a friend who boldly claimed football was “easy.”

In the clip, the Black Stars skipper can be heard defending the beautiful game’s demands with unexpected passion.

“Running is part of football, my guy,” Ayew fired back when his friend argued that he could play football well but wasn’t built for running.

For many Ghanaians, the sight and sound of Ayew getting this chatty is a novelty. In a 2022 interview, the 33-year-old had explained why he often appears so stern, saying even his mother and aunties beg him to “cheer up” more often.

He insisted then that his serious face was only a reflection of his intense focus, not a lack of joy.

“It doesn’t mean I’m not happy or I’m angry. It’s just my way of focusing,” he said at the time.

But at Legon’s Ajax Park, Ayew looked as relaxed as ever, trading playful jabs with friends, gesturing passionately, and showing a glimpse of the personality often hidden behind that trademark stoic expression.
