Ghanaian Kumawood actor, LilWin, has come under heavy bashing on social media following an ‘unwarranted’ utterance he made during the just-ended National Film Dialogue.

On September 16, 2025, the Ghana Film Authority held its National Film Dialogue at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, under the theme “Accelerating Industry Development.”

After the event, LilWin, who was present at the event, quizzed the organisers of the event for not including a Twi session during the dialogue.

According to LilWin, not every actor present at the event understands English; hence, the organisers should have included Twi during the event.

“Everyone here is speaking English; meanwhile, there are veteran filmmakers here who can’t speak English, so, they can’t contribute. So, there should be two sessions, Twi and English.

“With that, everyone can contribute. If such things are not done, we will continue to have such events, and no progress will be made. A lot of people will take their suggestions back home because they can’t contribute,” he said.

Reacting to LilWin’s comment, netizens have taken to social media to lambast the Kumawood actor, describing his statements as unnecessary.

An account on X with the name @MastaPee noted that even though the actor has a genuine concern, it will equally be unfavorable for individuals who don’t understand Twi if that is implemented.

“So, what of those there who don’t understand Twi too… if them speak Twi, how them too go barb… film making is not a Twi industry, it’s a Global industry, so global language is what will help bridge the international market gap,” the person wrote.

Another socialite also noted, “These Kumawood actors some thinks they own the industry, so everything should be in their dialect. English is Ghana’s official language, so if u don’t understand, go and learnt it so u can understand or speak it, masa de country no bi your own.”

A netizen who also criticised the Kumawood actor, quizzed if he was prevented from speaking his local dialect during the dialogue.

“Who restricted you from speaking your dialect at the dialogue?”

Lil Win’s concern might be well placed, but he MUST understand, Ghana has about 80 languages. English is the OFFICIAL language. 2nd factor, the constitution has not upgraded any local language above or superior to the other. For UNITY sake, the dialogue is proper in English only.
