The statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, recently erected at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi, has sparked widespread debate among Ghanaians on social media.

The president unveiled the statue during his tour of the Western Region, and Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah explained that it was created to honour the President for various initiatives he has undertaken.

However, critics argue that the statue should have been installed only after the hospital’s renovation work and the completion of other delayed projects.

This development has caused “Nebuchadnezzar” to trend on X (formerly Twitter), as critics draw parallels between Akufo-Addo’s statue and that of the biblical King Nebuchadnezzar, who famously erected a statue of himself and commanded his people to worship it.

Other trending topics on X for Thursday, 7 November 2024, include Sister Party, Alban Bagbin, and LGBTQ.

    Breakdown of Trending Topics:

    Sister Party

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) referred to the Republican Party, winner of the 2024 U.S. elections, as their “sister party” in a congratulatory message to President-elect Donald Trump, following his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.

This has led netizens to resurface old tweets from NPP figures who had previously mocked Trump during his campaign.

    Alban Bagbin

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is trending after addressing the ongoing controversy over vacant seats in parliament.

In Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams his statue was smashed and I hope this statue is smashed to smithereens. The obscenity and arrogance needs to be quenched forever. https://t.co/DbsXPVLHQO

You’re failing to see the signs. It’s not about symbols or slogans anymore. It’s about who is capable to get the job done. America going back for their former president should be shaking you guys rn. The writings are on the wall, Nebuchadnezzar will go!
