The Black Stars of Ghana have been hailed for their five-star performance in their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars pummelled Chad in their fifth game of the qualifying series with a five-goal victory on Friday, March 21, 2023.

A goal each from Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams, Mohammed Salisu, Antoine Semenyo, and Ernest Nuamah sent Otto Addo’s men to the top of the standings with 12 points, two ahead of Madagascar.

Reacting to the game, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress, Abdul-Matheen Sali Jinsah, commended the Black Stars for the victory.

General Matheen, who is a former NDC Deputy General Secretary aspirant, noted that the victory is indicative of the ‘reset’ of the Black Stars, who have recently experienced some poor performances.

“The performance by the team was great. This result shows that if you prepare well, you’ll definitely achieve success. Ahead of the game, we had the president and key government officials visiting the players to boost their morale, and I believe this contributed significantly to the victory.

“We promised to reset every sector of this country, and the Black Stars are already experiencing that. I do not doubt that the NDC government will turn our football around. Kudos to the team, the coaches, and of course, the sports minister and President Mahama,” he said.

As the Black Stars prepare to face Madagascar in Morocco on Monday, March 24, 2025, General Matheen has urged them to remain focused and win the game for Ghana.

He believes that a victory against Madagascar will be a huge step toward securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
