Ghanaian entertainment pundit Vida Adutwumwaa has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to focus on fulfilling its campaign promises after being voted into power.

In a discussion on United Showbiz on UTV on January 11, 2025, Vida Adutwumwaa stated that while President Mahama’s decision to rename some ministries, such as changing the ‘Ministry of Trade and Industry’ to the ‘Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry’, is a step in the right direction, he should focus more on addressing the key issues within the ministry.

Vida Adutwumwaa, while proposing some actions for the government, also emphasised that they should organise monthly events in the creative arts industry instead of waiting until the end of the year.

“The name change has to go with the redirection of focus. Right now, if agribusiness has been added to trade, there should be a vivid focus. If the government is pumping money into that industry, everyone should know the job the money is used for.

“My focus when it comes to the creative arts is what Sammy Gyamfi said earlier, that every month they will organise an event. So my focus is that every month the government will organise an event because if the Akufo-Addo government didn’t do anything at all, they did well in the creative arts ministry with their year of return and beyond the return. We had people coming into the country only to taste our food because of the comparison we had with Nigerians,” she stated.

She added, “If we can spare them for the month of January, from February going they should be able to organise something. Especially in the month of March since it is Ghana Month.”

Vida Adutwumwaa added that Rex Omar is a good candidate to serve as a minister of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts; however, based on experience, Dzifa Gomashie might be chosen over him.

“When Mahama was campaigning, there was one key thing he emphasised, which was woman empowerment. And since Dzifa also falls within the bracket and is also a sitting MP, all the odds are falling in her favour.

“So some of our colleagues were in a haste to nominate Rex Omar. For all you know, he wouldn’t even win that position. However, there are other agencies within the ministry where he can work,” she added.

    Background

On January 9, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama, through the Executive Instrument, reduced the number of ministries from 30 to 23.

The initiative by the president forms part of an administrative restructuring aimed at enhancing efficiency and streamlining government operations.
