Fifi Kwetey (M) has announced that Inusah Fuseini(R) will replace Mahama Ayariga(L) on the committee Fifi Kwetey (M) has announced that Inusah Fuseini(R) will replace Mahama Ayariga(L) on the committee

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has replaced the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, with former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Inusah Fuseini, on the committee it has set up to investigate allegations of vote-buying in the party’s just-ended Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries.

The move was announced in a post shared on social media on Sunday, February 8, 2026, by the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey indicated the Majority Leader, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, could not continue to serve on the committee because of the position taken by the Majority Caucus that the results of the primaries should be cancelled.

“The NDC has appointed former MP and Minister, Hon Inusah Fuseini, to replace Hon Mahama Ayariga on the committee investigating the reported vote-buying incidents in the Ayawaso East Primaries.

“Hon Ayariga had to step down because his position on the committee became untenable following the declared position of the Majority Caucus. The party remains committed to upholding the highest integrity in its internal electoral process,” the General Secretary wrote.

The step taken by the party comes after Mahama Ayariga withdrew from the committee, citing the firm position taken by the Majority Caucus in Parliament.

In a post via his social media on Sunday, February 8, 2026, Ayariga said it had become “untenable for him to continue serving on the committee following the Caucus’ call for the cancellation of the election.”

The Majority Caucus in Parliament called for the immediate cancellation of the party’s parliamentary primaries held in the Ayawaso East constituency and the disqualification of the contenders in the race who are found to have engaged in vote-buying.

    President Mahama recalls Baba Jamal

    About the primaries:

Jamal Mohammed Ahmed emerged winner of the National Democratic Congress parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency.

According to final provisional results, Baba Jamal secured 431 votes to defeat his closest contender, Hajia Amina Adam, who polled 399 votes. Mohammed Ramne obtained 88 votes, and Dr Yakubu Azimdow garnered 45 votes, while Najib Sani received one vote.

The primaries, which attracted more than 1,100 accredited delegates from across the constituency, was held amid reports of alleged inducement and vote-buying.

In a statement issued on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the NDC confirmed it had been notified of incidents of vote buying and inducement involving some aspirants.

The party described the alleged acts as a direct violation of its core values and principles, stressing its commitment to upholding internal democracy and discipline.

Following his victory, Baba Jamal is expected to lead the NDC into the March 3 parliamentary by-election as the party seeks to retain the Ayawaso East seat.
