Prestea Huni Valley Constituency has strongly refuted allegations made by a group claiming to represent local miners and residents regarding the appointment of Alhaji Ishaque Dauda as the Managing Director (MD) of Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited (PSGL).

In a statement, the NDC described these concerns as “misguided” and “driven by selfish and greedy motives,” aimed at derailing the progress of both the company and the community.

The party reaffirmed its full support for Dauda’s leadership, citing his early achievements and commitment to revitalizing the company.

The NDC strongly dismissed claims that local miners in Prestea supply “85 to 90 percent” of the company’s raw materials.

According to the party, PSGL, established in 1994 to extract gold from old tailings—sources its feed from various small-scale miners and suppliers across the country, not solely from Prestea.

“The assertion that these individuals can withhold tailings or block trucks to disrupt operations is an empty threat. It overestimates their influence and underestimates the company’s resilience,” the statement read.

The party warned that such actions would only harm the local economy, drawing parallels to the financial struggles experienced when PSGL shut down between November 2016 and 2019.

The NDC emphasized that within just over a month in office, Dauda has already implemented key reforms, including a comprehensive audit of the previous administration.

The party accused the previous leadership, allegedly dominated by “mediocre NPP loyalists,” of mismanagement, adding that Dauda’s tenure represents a shift toward transparency and accountability.

Furthermore, the party highlighted the revitalization of the company’s tailings dam under Dauda’s leadership, questioning why his critics have ignored this key achievement.

The NDC labeled the individuals opposing Dauda’s appointment as “faceless entities” driven by self-interest rather than genuine concern for the company or the community.

“These are not true representatives of our community, but selfish individuals threatened by Dauda’s appointment. They fear that his tenure will expose and eliminate their corrupt involvement in the company’s affairs,” the statement asserted.

The party reiterated that PSGL is a national asset, not a private entity, and leadership appointments should be based on competence, not parochial interests.

The NDC dismissed claims that not appointing a Prestea indigene as MD would affect the party’s electoral fortunes in the constituency. They cited past elections where the NDC secured victories despite MDs being from outside Prestea.

“The notion that the previous government’s defeat was due to a similar ‘outside’ appointment is a gross oversimplification of electoral dynamics and an attempt to stoke division,” the statement added.

The NDC urged residents of Prestea Huni Valley, party supporters, and well-meaning Ghanaians to rally behind Dauda’s leadership.

“His leadership aligns with His Excellency the President’s vision of resetting the country, of which Prestea is an integral part. Let us not be deceived by a few selfish individuals who seek to prioritize their personal interests over the collective good,” the statement urged.

The party stressed that Dauda’s leadership would bring jobs, boost local commerce, and restore Prestea’s economic vibrancy, encouraging the community to support his tenure.

The NDC concluded by categorically distancing itself from the alleged 13 individuals opposing the appointment.

“As the leadership of the NDC in Prestea, with the full backing of our members, we disassociate ourselves from these so-called faceless individuals. The entire constituency of Prestea Huni Valley stands firmly behind the President’s appointment. Dauda is welcome, Prestea is his home, and he can count on the full support of the NDC in the constituency,” the statement affirmed.
