The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that individuals aspiring to contest for the party’s parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Tamale Central by-election will be required to pay a total of GH¢45,000 to enter the race.

In a press release outlining guidelines for the party’s primary, the NDC stated that aspirants must pay a non-refundable nomination fee of GH¢5,000, in addition to a filing fee of GH¢40,000.

The statement, signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, noted that female aspirants and persons with disabilities are entitled to a 50 percent reduction on the filing fee.

Nominations will be open from Friday, August 22, to Sunday, August 24, 2025. Submission of forms and filing of nominations will take place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, while vetting, balloting, and appeals will be conducted on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

The party emphasised that all payments must be made in cash directly into the party’s bank account; cheques and bankers’ drafts will not be accepted.

The election of the party’s candidate is scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Tamale Central by-election, scheduled by the Electoral Commission for September 30, 2025, has become necessary following the death of the area’s Member of Parliament, Dr Murtala Muhammed, who tragically died along with seven others in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
