The National Communications Authority Staff Association (NCASA) has expressed its optimism regarding the recent appointment of Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko as the Acting Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA).

They believe his leadership will usher in tremendous growth for the authority.

The appointment, announced on January 24, 2025, in an official release by the NCA, was made by President John Dramani Mahama. Rev. Ing. Fianko, an accomplished electronic communications engineer, brings over 20 years of expertise in radio frequency spectrum management, telecommunications and broadcasting regulation, policy formulation, change management, ICT research, writing, teaching, and public speaking.

Since starting his career as a National Service Person at the NCA in 2004, Rev. Ing. Fianko has steadily risen through the ranks, culminating in his confirmation as Director of the Engineering Division in January 2024. His extensive experience and dedication have earned him recognition as a distinguished professional in the field.

In a congratulatory statement, NCASA lauded Rev. Ing. Fianko’s career journey, calling it a testament to his hard work and commitment to excellence.

“Your remarkable journey, starting as a National Service Person at the NCA and rising through the ranks to become Director of Engineering, and now Acting Director-General, is a true testament to your dedication, expertise, and exemplary leadership,” the statement read.

“Your story inspires many and reflects the value of perseverance and commitment to excellence. We are confident that under your leadership, the NCA will continue to thrive and achieve greater heights in regulating Ghana’s communications sector.”

NCASA also expressed gratitude to President Mahama for recognizing Rev. Ing. Fianko’s talent and promoting internal leadership within the NCA. They assured him of their unwavering support as he begins this new chapter.

The Regional African Satellite Communications Organisation (RASCOM) also commended the appointment in a separate statement. As a board member representing Ghana, Rev. Ing. Fianko has consistently contributed to advancing Africa’s satellite communications agenda.

“This appointment is a testament to Ing. Fianko’s exceptional expertise, leadership, and dedication to advancing the communications sector in Ghana and beyond. We are confident that his vast experience and passion for the industry will translate into remarkable strides in his new role,” RASCOM stated.

Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko’s appointment is seen as a strong endorsement of his competence and leadership capabilities, with stakeholders optimistic about his ability to steer the NCA toward even greater achievements.
