Nations FC have made explosive allegations following their decision to abandon their Ghana Premier League Week 33 clash against Basake Holy Stars, claiming their safety was compromised at the Ampain AAK II Sports Arena.

The high-tension fixture, played on Sunday, June 1, 2025, was halted in the first half after Nations FC walked off the pitch in protest.

The decision came moments after a second penalty was awarded against them, with the visitors already trailing 1-0 following a 32nd-minute spot kick converted by Holy Stars.

In a post-match statement, Nations FC cited poor officiating and severe lapses in security arrangements as the reasons for their decision to withdraw from the game.

However, the situation has taken an even more serious turn following fresh allegations from the club’s Brands Manager, Kennedy Boakye Ansah.

Speaking on the Luv Sports Blitz Xtra, Ansah accused Basake Holy Stars of orchestrating a hostile and unsafe atmosphere, claiming that armed individuals were transported to the venue using a bus provided by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“My biggest disappointment is with the head of the Western Regional Association, who is the owner of Basake. He came to the stadium in a pick-up that was given by the GFA. The bus the GFA gave them when they qualified to the Premier League was the bus that was used to bus the macho men on two occasions into the stadium,” he said.

Ansah further alleged that the men held knives and guns, and as such, the team had to abandon the game.

“The Machomen were holding knives and guns. It was our safety and security officer who saw them. That is why we decided not to play the game. At that point, we realised that those three points would not amount to a life being lost, so the most important thing was that we needed to save our lives. That is why we asked the supporters and players not to play the game,” he added.

The Ghana Football Association have yet to issue an official response regarding the incident. The result of the match, as well as any potential disciplinary action from the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee, remains pending.
