National Security authorities in the Ashanti Region have assumed control of the Akom Axel Load Station in the Afigya Kwabre North District following reports of financial mismanagement and corruption.

Alhaji Abubakar Nje, the Deputy Regional Security Coordinator, explained that intelligence indicated certain individuals were operating the station for personal gain while failing to account for government revenue. He highlighted cases were trucks bypassed weighing procedures, with fees being diverted into private pockets.

In an interview with Adom News, Alhaji Nje confirmed the takeover, stating, ‘We have temporarily taken charge of the Akom Axel Load Station to restore order and safeguard state interests.’ He noted that on June 4, nine vehicles were intercepted, but by June 9, only one truck had been officially recorded.

Kwame Yallo, the NDC Organizer for Afigya Kwabre North, expressed dismay over party members exploiting the station for personal profit just months after assuming office. He claimed that when he raised concerns, he was offered a weekly bribe of ‘one car’ to remain silent.

Yallo urged government and highway officials to step in, warning that the state was losing substantial revenue while a select few profited illegally. He also emphasized that heavy trucks were damaging roads while weighing fees were being siphoned off by corrupt individuals.
