NASCO has presented mouthwatering prizes to winners of the Ghana Premier League Player and Coach of the Month for the month of September.
Young Apostle’s Richmond Opoku and Bashir Hayford of Heart of Lions were named as the Ghana Premier League player and coach of the month of September respectively by the Ghana Football Association.
The player of the month received a 40 inch digital satellite television and a double-door fridge with a bottom freezer, while the coach of the month received a 43 in digital satellite television and a chest freezer.
The awards marked a significant improvement by NASCO, which has been awarding outstanding performers in the Ghana Premier League since 2017.
The monthly prizes for both players and coaches used to be only television sets, but the sponsors, according to it’s Head of Marketing, Adiza Kubura Braimah, have added fridges to it “to adequately motivate players and coaches.”
“We recognise the efforts players and coaches put in for their teams and to entertain fans, hence our decision to significantly improve the packages for both the men’s league and the women’s league, as part of our support for Ghana Football,” said Adiza, who presented the prizes to representatives of the player and the coach.
Richmond Opoku had a standout month, scoring three impressive goals to edge out Mohammed Zaidan of Karela United and Etse Dogli of Heart of Lions for the honour.
His outstanding performances have played a key role in Young Apostles’ strong start to the season. The Wenchi based side are currently third on the league table with 10 points after Matchday five, marking their best-ever start since joining the Ghana Premier League in 2024.
Bashir Hayford on the other hand guided Heart of Lions through a flawless month, during which they remained unbeaten, securing three remarkable victories.
Under his stewardship, Heart of Lions demonstrated resilience and consistency, displaying one of the best all-round performances in the league during the month.
Coach Bashir’s team scored a joint league-high six goals and conceded just one, a record reflecting both attacking efficiency and defensive discipline. His tactical awareness and ability to get the best out of his players played a pivotal role in Heart of Lions’ strong start to the campaign.
