Nana Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah, popularly known as Nana Kay, an aspiring National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for an immediate investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) into the activities of the Chief Executive Officer and executives of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
Speaking during a live interview on Accra-based Kessben FM, Nana Kay expressed concern over what he described as a lack of transparency in the management of oil supplies in Ghana.
He accused President John Dramani Mahama and TOR executives of failing to provide clear and honest information to the Ghanaian public, particularly regarding the refinery’s operations and recent claims about its expected revival.
According to Nana Kay, there appears to be a disconnect between the President’s public assurances and the current state of the refinery. President Mahama had announced that TOR would officially resume crude oil refining by the end of October 2025, describing it as a major step toward reviving the facility after years of inactivity.
However, Nana Kay questioned the credibility of the announcement, citing the latest report from the Bank of Ghana, which he said indicated that no crude oil had been imported for refining as of the reporting period. He argued that the absence of crude imports casts doubt on the refinery’s readiness to resume operations as scheduled.
He stressed that given TOR’s strategic importance to Ghana’s energy sector, there must be greater accountability in how oil supplies are secured and managed. The refinery’s prolonged inactivity has heightened concerns about Ghana’s energy independence and its continued reliance on imported refined petroleum products.
“The citizens deserve to know how these resources are handled, especially at such a sensitive and pivotal time for Ghana’s energy sector,” Nana Kay stated.
His call for an investigation comes amid growing public concern over the adequacy and fairness of petroleum supply chains, as well as their impact on national fuel prices and the broader economy.
He further questioned the integrity of the processes employed by TOR’s leadership and the implications of their operations for consumers and businesses across the country.
