Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa or Mama Pat, has shared the thoughts that ran through her mind when she was handed a 15-year prison sentence.

In a video shared by the Ghana Prison Service on March 2, 2026, Nana Agradaa recalled the fear and uncertainty she felt on her first day being transferred to prison.

According to her, the experience was overwhelming, and she genuinely believed she might not survive the ordeal.

“On my way to prison, I honestly thought I was going to die. When I got to the gate, I prayed and handed myself over to God because I had no idea what awaited me inside. I just held my Bible and walked in,” she shared.

She further explained that when the trial court initially sentenced her to 15 years with hard labour, she struggled to come to terms with the decision.

In her view, the punishment felt unreal, and she could not imagine spending such a long period behind bars.

“When I was sentenced to 15 years, I never believed I would actually spend that long in jail. I kept asking myself what wrong I had done, so I couldn’t accept that fate. At that point, I believed the only things that could help me were prayers and the word of God,” she added.

    Background

Nana Agradaa was convicted on July 3, 2025, by an Accra Circuit Court on multiple charges, including charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence.

The charges stemmed from the promotion of a money-doubling scheme during services at her church, Heaven Way Champion International Ministry, in Weija in the Greater Accra Region.

During a widely publicised broadcast-style service, she was accused of promising congregants miraculous financial returns in exchange for money.

According to the prosecution, those promises did not materialise, leading to complaints from participants who felt deceived.

However, on February 5, 2026, the High Court in Amasaman upheld her conviction but reviewed the sentence.

The court ruled that the original punishment was excessive and disproportionate under the circumstances and subsequently revised it.

Under Ghana’s standard remission rules, which allow inmates to be released after serving two-thirds of their sentence upon good behaviour, Nana Agradaa was released from prison on March 3, 2026, after serving the required portion of her revised term.
