Popular media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah has criticised the recruitment process of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) following the tragic stampede at the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, which led to the deaths of six young women.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during a recruitment exercise for the armed forces.

Thousands of applicants had camped at the entrance of the stadium, leading to a mad rush for the gates at the start of the exercise.

How celebrities reacted to deadly stampede at military recruitment exercise

In a post on X after the news broke, Nana Aba described the process as old-fashioned and urged the GAF to embrace technologies such as AI to modernise the recruitment process.

“Is the recruitment process not archaic? In 2025 you still gather people under the sun for something technology can finish in minutes!

“AI will not replace you. It’ll protect lives. Discipline isn’t just about drills and parades but knowing when to adapt. Modernise recruitments,” she posted.

The stampede led to 28 casualties, with 6 dead, 12 in critical condition and 5 injured.

Preliminary investigations by GAF indicated that the stampede was triggered by an “unexpected surge of applicants” who breached security protocols at about 06:20 hrs ahead of screening.

The Ghana Armed Forces has since launched an inquiry into the incident and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
