    The President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has sent a message of condolence to President John Dramani Mahama, the families of the victims, and the people of Ghana after a tragic military helicopter crash claimed eight lives.

    Helicopter Crash: Retired Wing Commander defends pilot’s experience

    The accident occurred on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

    Among those who died were two Cabinet Ministers including, Minister of Defence Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, as well as three Ghana Armed Forces crew members and other senior government officials.

    In a statement released on 6 August 2025, President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed her sorrow over the news and paid tribute to the victims.

    “It is with profound sorrow that I learned of the military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, in the southern Ashanti Region of Ghana. The tragic incident claimed the lives of eight people, among them two Cabinet ministers: Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, as well as three Ghana Armed Forces crew members and other senior officials.

    “On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Namibia, and in my personal capacity, I offer our heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, the bereaved families, and to all the people of Ghana during this time of national mourning.

    “The loss of these dedicated leaders is not only a tragedy for Ghana but for the African continent as a whole. Their untimely passing leaves a void in public service and leadership that will be deeply mourned.

    “During this painful moment of national mourning, I wish to convey, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Namibia, our heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, to the bereaved families, and to all the people of Ghana.

    “Namibia and Ghana share a long-standing bond of solidarity, rooted in our shared liberation struggles and commitment to Pan-African unity. In this spirit of enduring friendship, we stand in unity with the people of Ghana as you mourn these great sons and daughters of your nation.

    “May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace, and may the Government and people of Ghana find strength and comfort during this difficult time,” the statement read.
