The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has made it clear that no lawmaker will be shielded from accountability, stressing that holding parliamentary positions and enjoying certain privileges does not place members above the law.

Reacting to the police invitation extended to the Asutifi North Member of Parliament, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, following his alleged involvement in an attack on the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in Parliament on Tuesday, November,4, 2025, he said, “This is a formal communication on a reported attack on a team of national NAIMOS; it is not a formal communication on privileges and immunities.

“The Honourable MP is being investigated; he has not been convicted. We just want to erase the perception that members are always shielded from the due process of the law’.

The Director of Operations of NAIMOS and his team were attacked at Hwidiem in on November 1, 2025.

The MP for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo is alleged to have incited the mob and obstructed the NAIMOS team.

However, Kwaku Addo has denied inciting the mob, stating that he only went to the area to intervene to restore calm.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to take over the investigations into the matter.
