Thirteen small and medium-scale businesses at Kenyasi Number Two in the Asutifi South District of the Ahafo Region have received a total of GH¢1,850,000 to scale up their operations.

Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Newmont, provided the funds to the selected beneficiary businesses under its economic empowerment initiative.

The beneficiaries, who are mostly women, are engaged in wholesale and retail trading. They received amounts ranging from GH¢50,000 to GH¢300,000, depending on the nature of their business ventures.

Speaking at a short ceremony at the NADeF office in Ntotroso on Friday, Professor Yaw Ofosu-Kusi, Chairman of NADeF’s Board of Trustees, said that since its inception in 2008, the foundation has remained steadfast in its mandate to translate Newmont Ghana Gold Limited’s corporate social responsibility vision into tangible and lasting development outcomes.

“Our journey has been guided by a deep commitment to inclusivity, equity, and empowerment, particularly for communities that host Newmont operations,” he said.

He noted that over the past 17 years, NADeF has implemented a wide range of initiatives across Kenyasi Number One and Two, Ntotroso, Gyedu, Wamahinso, Yamfo, Susuanso, Afrisipakrom, Techire, and Adrobaa.

Prof. Ofosu-Kusi cautioned the beneficiaries to channel the funds into their businesses to expand them into viable ventures.

The Executive Secretary of NADeF, Elizabeth Opoku-Darko, urged the beneficiaries to invest the money prudently to enable them to repay their loans on time and derive maximum benefit.

Ms Evelyn Osei Kuffour, a beneficiary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Berlyna Enterprise, commended NADeF for the support, noting that the funds would go a long way to help her expand her venture and provide employment opportunities for others.
