The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA) has stressed the need for the speedy passage of the Arms Bill.

A statement issued on Friday, April 4, 2025, and signed by the Executive Secretary, Dr Adam Bonna noted that the passage of the bill would ensure better compliance to address illegal circulation of small arms.

“NACSA continues to work closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to curb the proliferation of illicit arms and promote responsible firearm ownership in Ghana. It is for this reason that NACSA continues to advocate for the swift passage of the Arms Bill, which seeks to strengthen Ghana’s legal

framework on arms control into law.

“The passage of this bill will enhance regulatory measures, provide

stronger enforcement mechanisms and compliance to address the illicit proliferation of small arms”, it noted.

It also commended the Ghana Police Service for their swift response in investigating and arresting two suspects involved in the discharge of firearms at a funeral in the Western North Region.

“The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA) commends the Ghana Police Service for the swift investigation and subsequent arrest of two suspects involved in the reckless discharge of firearms during a funeral at Attakrom near Bibiani in the Western North Region on March 14, 2025.

“Incidents such as the Attakrom shooting highlight the urgent need for greater public awareness and stricter enforcement of Ghana’s firearms regulations to prevent the unlawful possession and misuse of small arms” it indicated.

It further noted that the discharge of firearms in public places endangers lives.

“The reckless display and discharge of firearms in public spaces not only threaten lives but also contribute to a culture of impunity and insecurity”, it added.
