Media personality MzGee has brought together women from diverse backgrounds for a transformative event dubbed “A Convergence of Mothers”, held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

Organized under the theme “Yesterday’s Daughters, Today’s Mothers,” the forum sought to create a safe space for mothers across generations to reflect, share, and learn from each other’s journeys of raising children in Ghana’s ever-evolving social landscape.

MzGee, speaking at the event, explained the rationale behind the initiative:

“There are many people out there who might be having this struggle — when the baby comes, you’re worried about what exactly to do in order not to cause any discomfort. There are too many things and scattered information… But I realized also that our mothers were able to do this back in the day. Who taught them? Did we fail to learn from them because now we say we’re modernized?”

She continued, “Perhaps, some of the traditions are not the best, but the tradition will go on. So I thought, why not have a convergence of mothers — where the old and new will meet and jaw-jaw — to find out where the gaps are. Is it that yesterday’s daughters who have become today’s mothers have refused to take with them what the mothers taught them, or is it that yesterday’s mothers didn’t pass down the full lessons?”

The event featured a series of panel discussions and expert-led sessions on various aspects of motherhood. Topics included legal rights and responsibilities in raising children in Ghana, mental health challenges among mothers, raising adolescents, children’s nutrition, managing special needs, and navigating the modern education system.

A legal practitioner walked participants through the legal dimensions of parenting in Ghana, while other speakers offered insights into the emotional, psychological, and practical demands of motherhood today.

Notably, two iconic women — celebrated actress Grace Omaboe, affectionately known as Maame Dokuno, and veteran gospel musician Amy Newman — were honoured for their enduring impact and legacy.

The gathering was graced by notable personalities including Alberta Mensah (mother of Lynx Entertainment CEO Richie Mensah), gospel musicians Piesie Esther and Lady Prempeh, broadcaster Natalia Andoh, Frema Adu Nyame, Rose Ashley, Whitney Boakye Mensah, Dr. Jemima Nunoo, Afia Akoto, and Mavis Asante.

MzGee’s initiative has been widely praised as a timely intervention, particularly at a time when many young mothers find themselves torn between cultural heritage and modern parenting trends influenced by global media and digital spaces.

The event closed with a renewed call for intergenerational dialogue and community-driven support systems to empower mothers with both inherited wisdom and modern knowledge.
