Popular musician Mzbel has raised concerns on social media regarding the actions of outgoing NDC Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Felix Odartey Lamptey, during the December 7 elections.
Jerry Ahmed Shaib of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was declared the Member of Parliament-elect for Weija-Gbawe Constituency, securing 32,608 votes, ahead of the NDC’s Felix Odartey Lamptey, who garnered 30,460 votes.
In the aftermath of the defeat, Mzbel took to Facebook on December 9 to express concerns over some of the factors that contributed to Lamptey’s loss.
One of her main points of contention was the NDC MP’s decision to leave the collation centre while votes were still being counted.
Mzbel shared a video of Lamptey parading around the constituency, questioning why he left the centre and giving the impression that he had already been declared the winner.
“I think Weija-Gbawe we’ve been played by our own PC. If not, why did he leave the collation centre knowing very well that his opponent is trying everything possible to rig the election?” Mzbel wrote.
“Mr. Felix Odartey Lamptey, why did you leave the collation centre when no one has been declared winner? Why did you parade us through the constituency for hours with the impression that you have won?!” she asked.
Meanwhile, although the Electoral Commission is yet to officially announce the final results, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, has conceded defeat and congratulated his opponent, John Mahama of the NDC, on his victory.
